Domestic Flavor:
Consumer Credit: The July Consumer Credit report was much lower than expected, $10.4B versus estimates of $18.0B
Across the Pond:
Japan: GDP 2nd QTR 1.2% versus estimates of 1.3%, down from 1st QTR GDP of 1.5%.
Germany: CPI MOM 0.3% versus estimates of 0.3%, YOY 6.1% versus estimates of 6.1%.
G20: The G20 is in full swing with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and President Biden on site. Notably Putin and Xi will not be there.
Rosie the Riveter: The Revised 2nd QTR Non Farm Productivity was revised from 3.7% to 3.5% as Unit Labor Costs were revised from 1.6% to 2.2%.
On Deck for Tomorrow: Consumer Credit, G20 meeting
Interest rates began lower this morning, by mid-day the end of the recent improvements ahead of inflation data next week.
July consumer credit was expected +$16B reported at +$10.4B, June revised from $17.9B to $14.0B. Consumers ramped up the use of credit cards, climbing $9.6B after declining in the previous month. Non-revolving credit, such as loans for school tuition and vehicle purchases, rose $773 million. Increased use of credit cards at these high rates is something to be concerned about.
Next Week: Monday $44B 3 year note auction. Tuesday $35B 10 year note auction. Wednesday $20B 30 year bond auction. There isn’t any scheduled data next week until Wednesday. Wednesday MBA mortgage applications, August CPI, August treasury budget. Thursday August PPI, weekly jobless claims, August retail sales. Friday August import and export prices, August industrial production and factory use, U. of Michigan consumer sentiment index.
This Week: The 10 year note yield declined 8 bps, 2 year note +11 bps. FNMA 6.0 30 year coupon +186 bps. The DJIA -261, NASDAQ 0270, S&P -59. Gold declined $25.00 on dollar strength. Crude oil increased $1.48. he DJIA The dollar continued it climb; the dollar index increased 0.82 to 105.09. Bitcoin increased 24.
